Reason why Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds skipped Golden Globes ceremony revealed

Reason why Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds skipped Golden Globes ceremony revealed
They weren’t there on the big night in Los Angeles

Sometimes with awards shows the nominees (and at times the actual winners) can’t make it on the night, which might explain why Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds weren’t at the Golden Globes.

Reynolds had his film Deadpool & Wolverine nominated for the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award, but lost out to Wicked in that category, so he wouldn’t have been expected to get up on stage anyway.

Since Reynolds wasn’t attending the ceremony his wife, who also appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine, was also not really going to attend.

Her recent film It Ends With Us was not nominated in any category by the Golden Globes, so unless she’d been booked for a hosting role or to present an award she wouldn’t be going.

According to Deadline, the decision from Reynolds and Lively not to attend the Golden Globes was made well ahead of the growing situation between Blake Lively It Ends With Us director and actor Justin Baldoni.

Deadpool & Wolverine star Hugh Jackman was also not planning to attend the Golden Globes either, so while they had a film nominated at the awards, they had simply decided ahead of time not to attend it.

Reynolds had previously been nominated for a Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy Golden Globe back when the first Deadpool released, but was defeated by Ryan Gosling for his performance in La La Land.

That time round Reynolds put on a fake celebration with Andrew Garfield as they kissed, and according to Garfield, he’d told the Green Lantern star ‘if you win kiss me instead of your wife’, and when he didn’t win they still decided to kiss anyway.

The decision not to attend has nothing to do with the ongoing lawsuits between Lively and Baldoni.

Last month, she sued her director and co-star, alleging sexual harassment and a campaign of ‘social manipulation’ against her.

Baldoni’s legal representatives accused Lively of having ‘false stories planted with the media’ and said her lawsuit contained ‘categorically false accusations’.

They also said that Baldoni was planning to launch a lawsuit of his own against Lively, and he is among the plaintiffs of a $250 million lawsuit against the New York Times which alleges libel and false-light invasion of privacy.

She has since filed a second lawsuit against him, where she is demanding ‘punitive’ and ‘compensatory’ damages as well as a jury trial, and her legal representatives have said the look forward to resolving the matter in court.

The one topic she wouldn’t touch

If you were watching Nikki Glaser’s Golden Globes hosting performance, you’d be forgiven for thinking that there was no topic she was afraid to touch.

Whether it be joking about P Diddymocking Joker 2, or saying Benny Blanco was engaged to Selena Gomez because he wished for her via a genie, the comedian had a brutal streak to her jokes.

The comedian joked about P Diddy’s arrest, saying of Zendaya: “And Challengers, girl? Oh my God! That movie was more sexually charged than Diddy’s credit card, I mean seriously.”

This led to gasps from the crowd and criticism online, however this was not the one topic she said she was going to be steering clear of.

In actual fact, the ongoing legal situation between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively is the one topic which Nikki Glaser said was too far.

Right at the end of 2024, Lively caused headlines when filed a legal complaint against Justin Baldoni, accusing him of sexual harassment and creating an online smear campaign against her.

This was revealed by the New York Times, who Baldoni is now suing, alongside several others mentioned in the article.

This was a topic that Glaser decided she would be steering clear of, saying: “I think the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be.

“I also don’t want to give his name any … I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.”

The controversy between the two grew out of their time on It Ends With Us, where they starred together and Baldoni directed.

While she didn’t say she would avoid it altogether, she also said she would largely be steering clear of politics, claiming ‘people are tired of hearing about it’.

She went on to say: “There will be a nod to it, but it will not be too heavy-handed. I’ve made a good point not to go too hard.”

While her performance as a host has been widely praised, Glaser did receive criticism online for her joke about P Diddy.

The music mogul was arrested and charged with sex trafficking and racketeering.

When his mansion was raided by police, the rapper’s home was found to contain over 1,000 bottles of baby oil.

The full joke went on to say: “I’m sorry, I’m upset too. The afterparty is not going to be as good this year, but we have to move on.

“I know a Stanley Tucci freak off doesn’t have the same ring to it. No baby oil this year, just lots of olive oil.”

One viewer tweeted in response: “Who in that writing room thought it was a good idea to include that Diddy joke? That was literally just disgusting.”

Despite this though, she was largely praised for her hosting, with one fan tweeting: “nikki glaser kind of absolutely annihilating her monologue. incredible presence, perfect pacing, knows how to roast people and be tongue-in-cheek without being obnoxious and offensive.”

Blake Lively is back roasting her husband, Ryan Reynolds

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are back to doing what we love to see them do – hilariously roast each other.

The couple’s shared sense of humour is a constant source of entertainment, as they never miss a chance to poke fun at each other – not even birthday wishes are sacred in the Reynold’s-Lively household.

However, this time, Ryan is on the chopping block, as Blake took a hilarious dig at her husband while he was on his official press tour for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie.

The Deadpool star and his co-star, Hugh Jackman, were seen playing with water guns while attending the Waterbomb Festival in Seoul, South Korea on 5 July.

And the Gossip Girl star had something to say about it.

Posting to her Instagram Stories, Blake reposted a video of the 37-year-old with his yellow water gun as he sprays the audience, who then do it right back to him.

Her text over the video reads: “When he tells you he’s going to work and then you see him on MTV Spring Break.”

She then posted a gif and wrote ‘you are in serious trouble’, before renaming their movie as ‘Boys Gone Wild: A Deadpool and Wolverine Story’.

However, it wasn’t just Blake – of course, Ryan had to get a few digs in, only this one was directed at his co-star.

While in South Korea, he posted a video where he was going to ‘pass my phone to my favourite Australian’, and initially gave it to the Aussie actor before stealing it back to give the phone to Stray Kids members, Bang Chan and Felix.

He also tweeted a photo of all four of them, writing: “I successfully negotiated a trade. Wolverine will be the newest and only member of @Stray_Kids.

“And the entire band will join the MCU. We wish @RealHughJackman all the best on his K-pop journey.”

Prior to their appearance at Waterbomb, the pair were previously in Shanghai, where the star praised the country for their ‘incredible hospitality and warmth’.

In one of the pictures he shared on Instagram, Reynolds can be seen with the movie’s director, Shawn Levy, as they attended the screening of the film and visited local areas.

He wrote: “As we make our way to Korea, we want to thank the people of Shanghai for the incredible hospitality and warmth.

“I’ve been lucky to visit China five times — and as of today, the beautiful sights and sounds of Shanghai for a third time.

“Thank you from the heart of our bottom.”

Deadpool & Wolverine is in theatres on 26 July.

The film’s release was surrounded by speculation

A lip reader shared what she believed Ryan Reynolds said to Blake Lively during a tense conversation at the premiere for It Ends With Us.

Back when the romantic drama landed in cinemas over the summer, rumours were circulating of an off-set rift between Lively and co-star Justin Baldoni.

Fans had spotted ‘clues’ in cast members unfollowing Baldoni on social media as drama old and new seemed to be dragged up.

And some of those rumours now seem to be backed up as Lively has filed a lawsuit against her co-star and director for sexual harassment and alleging he tried to ‘destroy’ her reputation.

With speculation rife when It Ends With Us premiered, attention turned to a conversation between the mum-of-four and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, on a red carpet.

While photographers snapped away, the pair appeared to be quietly chatting as attention turned to just what they were talking about.

Lip reader Nicola Hicking told Nicki Swift that Reynolds was asking Lively a question.

Apparently, he said: “Is this the last time?”

To which Lively responded: “No, we gotta’ speak to everyone, erm, are you impressed there’s more?”

“Yeah, yeah, well it’s hardly a secret,” her husband replied.

LADbible reached out to Lively and Reynolds’ reps for comment at the time.

While it’s not clear just what the couple were talking about, the pair had been pretty busy back then with It Ends With Us releasing within weeks of Deadpool & Wolverine.

And not only did Lively star in her film, but she also ended up being a producer with Reynolds reportedly chipping in with the script.

From the lawsuit obtained by The New York Times, it is now reported that Reynolds may have been more present than previously known in the production.

The legal complaint claims a meeting was held during production to address Lively’s claims and demands for working on It Ends With Us, reportedly with her husband in attendance.

Allegedly, some of these demands addressed included: “No more showing nude videos or images of women to Blake, no more mention of Baldoni’s alleged previous ‘pornography addiction,’ no more discussions about sexual conquests in front of Blake and others, no further mentions of cast and crew’s genitalia, no more inquiries about Blake’s weight, and no further mention of Blake’s dead father.”

Baldoni’s lawyer has slammed the lawsuit as full of ‘categorically false accusations’ as Lively told The New York Times in a statement: “I hope that my legal action helps pull back the curtain on these sinister retaliatory tactics to harm people who speak up about misconduct and helps protect others who may be targeted.”

LADbible contacted Sony Pictures and Baldoni and Lively’s reps for comment.

Saltburn star Rosamund Pike reveals reason she had to hide half her face at Golden Globes

Saltburn star Rosamund Pike reveals reason she had to hide half her face at Golden Globes

The British star wore a veil covering her face

Saltburn star Rosamund Pike has explained why she wore a veil covering her face at the Golden Globes this weekend.

The 44-year-old British star attended the awards on Sunday (7 January) where she was nominated for the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role in any Motion Picture for her role as Lady Elspeth Catton in the ‘deeply disturbing’ Saltburn.

Pike has previously admitted that she’s ‘bewildered’ by the amount of love her Saltburn character has received – although, let’s be honest, she’s hardly the worst person in that movie, is she?

Speaking to Variety, she said: “I’m totally astonished! I’m bewildered. I sort of don’t know what to do with it. I’ve seen people on Instagram quoting lines and playing clips and also doing their own edits – putting Elspeth together with other characters I’ve played.

“I think in our filtered, cagey world where everyone’s being so cautious, it’s nice to see someone unfiltered. She’s in a bubble, nobody exists except people in her orbit so she can say whatever she wants without consequence. She doesn’t exist in the real world.”

The Gone Girl star was up against Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), Julianne Moore (May December), Emily Blunt (Oppenheimer) Da’Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) and Jodie Foster (Nyad) for the award, which ultimately went to Randolph.

As ever, those attending the Golden Globes went all out when it came to their outfits.

And, of course, Pike was no exception, opting to wear a strapless black lace dress with a fishnet and floral lace appliqué over her arms, chest and neck.

Topping off her look, which British Vogue described as ‘full Saltburn’, Pike wore a veil made out of similar material that covered her arms and neck with a little bow on top.

However, the veil was more than just a sartorial choice for Pike, who joked that it was actually a ‘protective veil’.

Speaking to Variety, Pike said: “I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident. And I had to think… you know, not what you want when you know you’re coming to the Golden Globes on the 7th of January.

“So on the 26th of December, my face was entirely smashed up and I thought I need to do something.”

As the reporter appeared to be taken aback, Pike went on: “Actually, it’s healed but I fell in love with the look.”
