A prison officer who was filmed having sex with an inmate has been jailed for 15 months.

Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, from Fulham, south-west London, was on duty at HMP Wandsworth when she entered the prisoner’s cell and had sex with him on 27 June.

She was subsequently charged after a video of the incident was shared on social media.

A police investigation was then launched after officers were made aware of the video.

Prosecutors said that the married mother, who has an OnlyFans account of her own, willingly took part in the video with a felon who’s spending time behind bars for an $82,000 (£63,800) luxury goods heist in Kensington, London.

De Sousa Abreu – who was arrested and pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office in July last year – appeared Isleworth Crown Court on Monday (6 January), where she was sentenced to 15 months in prison.

Misconduct in public office (MiPO) is a common law offence that can only be tried on indictment, according to UK law.

The charge says that De Sousa Abreu ‘wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell’.

Sentencing, Judge Martin Edmunds KC said: “It will impact on the reputation of the prison service and, with that, the prospects of recruiting and retaining staff.

“It causes anxiety among those close to vulnerable prisoners who worry more about the environment in which prisoners are held. That recording is still out there and will doubtless circulate indefinitely.

“You are not responsible for the wider problems of prisons, but you have added to them. The level of harm is high, indeed very high.”

Governor of HMP Wandsworth, Andrew Davy, told the court that female workers are going home ‘only to be met by children who are being teased by others at school because their mothers work at HMP Wandsworth’.

He added: “It has taken many years for female staff to be accepted and treated professionally in a male-dominated environment…The activities of this defendant have undone years of work.”

Tetteh Turkson, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said last year: “This was a shocking breach of the public’s trust.

“De Sousa was clearly an enthusiastic participant who wrongly thought she would avoid responsibility.

“The CPS recognises there is no excuse for any prison officer who conducts themselves in such a manner, and we will never hesitate to prosecute those who abuse their position of power.

“After working closely with the Metropolitan Police to build the strongest possible case, De Sousa had no option but accept she was guilty. She will now rightly face the consequences of her actions.”

Linda De Sousa Abreu pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in public office on Monday

The Wandsworth prison guard who was filmed having sex with an inmate could be facing a lifetime behind bars.

Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, pleaded guilty to misconduct on Monday, 29 July after being caught having sex with a prisoner on 27 June, with the footage going viral on social media.

Earlier this month, she took to TikTok to address the fact that nobody knows her ‘side of the story’, and told viewers not to fall for fake OnlyFans accounts impersonating her.

Prosecutors said that Abreu, who has an OnlyFans account of her own, willingly took part in the video with inmate Linton Weirich, a felon who’s spending time behind bars for an $82,000 (£63,800) luxury goods heist in Kensington, London.

The married mother, of Fulham, south-west London, was originally arrested earlier this month, after a police investigation found her to be the guard having sex with Weirich in the men’s prison between June 26-28.

She was arrested at Heathrow Airport en route to Madrid, having told the prison of her intention not to return to work.

Abreu pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in a public office, and was granted conditional bail having been scheduled to appear in Isleworth Crown Court on 7 November.

Her lawyers did not immediately issue a statement.

The charge states that De Sousa Abreu ‘wilfully and without reasonable excuse or justification misconducted yourself in a way which amounted to an abuse of the public’s trust in the office holder by engaging in a sexual act with a prisoner in a prison cell’.

But how serious is the charge?

Misconduct in public office (MiPO) is a common law offence that can only be tried on indictment, according to UK law, with the maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The offence concerns wilful neglect or abuse of the power or responsibilities of the public office held, with there being a direct link between the misconduct and an abuse of those powers.

This can raise several complex or sensitive issues.

Husband explains importance of ‘harrowing’ nanny cam footage of wife’s abuse that saw her sent to prison

Husband explains importance of ‘harrowing’ nanny cam footage of wife’s abuse that saw her sent to prison

Richard Spencer has bravely spoken about experiencing domestic violence in his 20 year relationship

Warning: This article contains discussion of domestic violence which some readers may find distressing

A man who experienced harrowing domestic violence in his relationship has explained the importance of recording the abuse in nanny cam videos.

For two decades Richard Spencer suffered physical, verbal, financial and psychological violence at the hands of his then-wife Sheree, which came to an end after a friend reported the abuse to local authorities.

Sheree’s abuse would include attempting to make it look like Richard was the violent spouse, leading the 48-year-old to begin documenting his attacks as evidence that the opposite was happening.

This included harrowing clips caught on a nanny cam which showed Sheree verbally and physically abusing Richard, with one clip seeing her threatening him with a knife in their children’s playroom.

Richard would later send the footage to a friend in June 2021, who reported the shocking violence to the police.

Sheree was subsequently arrested and would later admit to three offences – causing actual bodily harm between January and April 2020, as well as coercive and controlling behaviour between January 2016 and June 2021.

She was handed a four-year prison sentence.

Richard has since shared his story publicly in order to raise awareness about domestic violence against men, working alongside the ManKind Initiative and sharing the footage of Sheree’s attacks in Channel 5 documentary My Wife, My Abuser: The Secret Footage last year.

Speaking about his experience in a new interview with The Sun, Richard explained the importance of having the footage when it came to proving his experiences of abuse.

“I dread to think what would have happened if I hadn’t had the video evidence,” he said of the footage.

Sheree’s attempts to paint Richard as violent had included shouting out the window that he was hurting her and sending pictures of bruises to friends.

He continued: “In the family court alone Sheree made 42 false allegations against me and tried to claim I was an abuser. The footage I collected means that she is the one in prison and that I am still part of my daughters’ lives.”

Richard has also urged male victims of domestic violence to reach out for help as well as his thoughts on how to support a loved one who may be experiencing abuse.

Speaking about his experience in an interview with LADbible last November, Richard also urged anyone who believes a friend or family member is experiencing domestic violence not to confront the perpetrator.

“One thing I would say you probably definitely shouldn’t do would be not to confront the perpetrator,” he explained.

“If you antagonise that person, make them aware that you know about abuse, the chances are that the abuse could escalate, and could have stark consequences. I would definitely put all your focus on being empathic and supporting the victim.”

Sickening story of Britain's most dangerous killer 'Hannibal the Cannibal' who tortured and killed fellow inmate

Sickening story of Britain’s most dangerous killer ‘Hannibal the Cannibal’ who tortured and killed fellow inmate

The inmate is kept in a cell which resembles Hannibal Lecter’s in Silence of the Lambs

A new book has shed light on life inside one of Britain’s most notorious prisons, which houses a terrifying criminal nicknamed ‘Hannibal the Cannibal’.

Released on Thursday (20 June) Inside Wakefield Prison: Life Behind Bars in the Monster Mansion by Jonathan Levi and Dr Emma French takes us inside HMP Wakefield, one of the most dangerous buildings in the UK.

The infamous prison is nicknamed ‘Monster Mansion’ due to the large number of high-risk, violent criminals, murderers and sex offenders.

Criminals who have passed through Wakefield’s corridors include serial killer Harold Shipman, Charles Bronson and disgraced Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins.

However one of the most darkly fascinating cases is the story of the so-called ‘Hannibal The Cannibal’ who was rumoured to have eaten another inmates’s brain.

‘Hannibal The Cannibal’ was a gruesome nickname given to Robert Maudsley, 70, who holds the record for the longest serving prisoner in solitary confinement.

Maudsley was born in Liverpool in 1953 and spent his early years growing up in a catholic orphanage alongside his three siblings. The children were briefly returned to the care of their parents before being removed once again due to physical abuse from their father.

Maudsley would go on to claim the abuse from his parents had caused psychological scars.

He later moved to London and worked as a sex worker, which is where he encountered his first victim, John Farrell, in 1974. A client of his, Maudsley had garrotted him after Farrell revealed images of children he had sexually abused.

Maudsley’s next victim was an inmate at Broadmoor Hospital, with the 1977 murder earning him the grisly moniker ‘Hannibal The Cannibal’.

The cannibalism rumours were later found to be false.

David Francis was a convicted child molester who was killed after a sustained attack from Maudsley, which saw him tortured and had a spoon driven into his brain.

Following the killing, Maudsley was sent to HMP Wakefield after being convicted of manslaughter where he would undergo another killing spree in 1978.

This time his targets were Salney Darwood and William Roberts, later confessing to the on-duty officer by saying they would be two people short at the next roll call. Maudsley was then convicted of double murder and sent to solitary confinement in Wakefield, where he has remained ever since.

Maudsley is considered such a high risk to other prisoners that a specially developed cell was built for him in 1983.

Measuring 8ft by 14ft and housed in the prison’s basement, Maudsley’s cell resembles that of Hannibal Lecter’s in 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs.

He is monitored for 23 hours a day and can only leave his cell when flanked by four police officers.

Dubai government shares statement as British teen faces 20 years in prison after having sex with girl on holiday

Dubai government shares statement as British teen faces 20 years in prison after having sex with girl on holiday

There have been appeals to get him out of Dubai but it seems like the government is set on him going to trial

The government of Dubai has released a statement regarding the case of a British teenager who is facing up to 20 years in prison after he had sex with a girl on holiday.

London lad Marcus Fakana visited Dubai with his parents for a holiday in August and while out there met a girl who was also from London.

The 18-year-old teen said they ‘had a wonderful time together’ and he told his parents about the relationship but the girl, who was 17 at the time and has since turned 18, couldn’t because her parents were strict.

After the girl and her family returned to London her mother discovered the relationship after going through her daughter’s phone, then contacted authorities in Dubai to inform them.

Police arrived at Marcus’ hotel to arrest him over the relationship, which would have been legal had it taken place in London where both of them lived, and he was held at Al Barsha Police Station for three days where he couldn’t contact anyone, not even his parents.

He is facing the possibility of up to 20 years in prison, with his family appealing to the UK government for help and a spokesperson for the Foreign Office confirming in a statement: “We are supporting a British man in the UAE and are in contact with his family.”

The law in Dubai was only recently changed to allow tourists to have sex outside of marriage, and both participants must be aged 18 or older.

Radha Stirling, CEO of human rights group Detained In Dubai said that Marcus didn’t know the girl was ‘a few months younger’ than him at the time of the relationship.

According to the BBC, the government of Dubai said in a statement: “Under UAE law, the girl is legally classified as a minor, and in accordance with procedures recognised internationally, her mother – being the legal guardian – filed the complaint.”

A trial for Marcus Fakana is set to begin on 9 December, with Dubai’s public prosecution office saying the date was ‘at the request of the defendant’s legal counsel’.

The office insisted that they were ‘committed to protecting the rights of all individuals and ensuring impartial judicial proceedings’.

The family of Marcus Fakana spoke out on their ‘nightmare’ ordeal, as his parents have returned home to the UK and are working to pay for their son’s accommodation, while he is still in Dubai, as he has been living in Airbnb properties.

They said their son was ‘very scared’ as he faced a trial and the prospect of prison, explaining their perspective on a GoFundMe page set up to help pay for the teenager’s legal costs.

“What was meant to be a happy time has turned into a nightmare for him, our family, and our friends,” the family explained.

“This has happened as a result of someone trying to misuse UAE law against him. He is being charged with a crime that could lead to imprisonment for up to 20 years.”
